PMU launches its NFT collection
In recent years, virtual sports have evolved a lot, in particular thanks to these new technologies that are ever stronger and more innovative. Companies have understood that it is important to take an interest in the Metaverse and to adapt to it, the Sport Betting company in France has understood this well.
Constantin Garreau, Director of Innovation at Pari Mutuel Urbain (PMU) has announced the release of a collection of NFTs around horses in the coming weeks. The collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) should be racehorses with the aim of offering a virtual game around these NFTs.
PMU’s project is to rally the Metaverse and sports betting in order to be able to reach a new clientele. The company is currently looking to collaborate with gaming companies to create a real game :
“The PMU is preparing to offer, in the coming weeks, a collection of NFTs designed specifically for making games in the Metaverse.”

PMU, the sports betting company, is recognized in France for its gambling around sports but also for one of these specialties : “turf”. Turf is an equestrian sport that brings together equestrian sports activities around horses. His idea of creating a virtual game around horse racing is therefore not insignificant.
There are already NFT projects around horse racing such as : DeRace, Pegaxy or ZedRun. Players can invest in different types of horses and sell them, breed them, or pit them against other horses.
Holders of Project PMU NFTs will be able to compete in horse races. The NFTs will be the representation of real racehorses, based on what has already been created with Sorare for example. The NFT holder could win based on the horse’s actual results in competitions. For the CEO of PMU, successful NFT projects are those that connect the virtual world to the physical world.
“We have been working on new games for several months. These include NFT, Metaverse and Web3. I’ll meet you in a few months to talk about games where, for example, when you own the avatar ( NFT) of a racehorse, you could win based on the arrival of actual races.”
PMU ceo, Emmanuelle Malecaze-Doublet
Sports betting in the Metaverse ?
Sports betting has been the subject of much criticism in recent years. It seems distant and at the same time so close, to imagine that it would soon be possible to bet in the Metaverse on virtual games. According to web3 enthusiasts, virtual sports would eliminate the possibility of foul play for participants and would therefore make the betting experience fairer for everyone.
In the Metaverse everything is automated, so it would be random number generators that would decide the outcome of the competitions. The betting companies or the players themselves will not be able to intervene in the decision of the outcome of the event if it becomes possible to bet in the Metaverse.
PMU is currently the first gambling company in France to take a step towards web3, however no definite date has yet been confirmed by the company for the launch of their project.
